Join us for a lecture on Juneteenth and the Birth of Black Innovation by Dr. Leonard Moore. Dr. Moore is currently the George Littlefield Professor of American History and a Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. Inside the classroom Dr. Moore teaches more than 1,000 undergraduate students in the fall semester in his two classes: History of The Black Power Movementand Black Southerners in the Age of Jim Crow. He is a 1993 graduate of Jackson State University and he received his Ph.D. at Ohio State in 1998. From 1998-2007 he was a professor at LSU and since 2007 he has been at the University of Texas.

As a scholar Professor Moore is the author of four books on black politics including: Carl B. Stokes and the Rise of Black Political Power; Black Rage in New Orleans; The Defeat of Black Power; and his latest book Teaching Black History to White People. He is currently working on a biography of Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., the controversial pastor, politician, and civil rights leader.
